5 Recommended Steps for Prevention and Early Detection of Colorectal Cancer

1.

Assess patients for colorectal cancer risk factors, particularly family history.

Stratify patient’s risk into one of three groups: average risk, moderate risk, and high risk*.

Offer appropriate screening modalities according to patient risk and preference.

4.

Identify advantages and disadvantages of each screening modality.

5.

Confirm that patient adequately completes required bowel cleanout.
