While malpractice cases include a small proportion of all adverse events due to clinician errors, it is imperative for nurses to understand the information and data surrounding the drivers of malpractice claims. The goal of this activity is to provide nurses, nurse educators, nurse leaders, CNOs and all learners, with the knowledge about malpractice cases as related to nursing. The learner will understand the data related to trends, allegations, severity and contributing factors that influence nursing related claims. The learner will also be provided with information related to patient safety interventions to assist in risk mitigation for patients and protection of one's own practice. These sessions will also cover topics such as communication, documentation and safety reporting.
