Comparative MPL Data Available

Part of CRICO’s mission is to advance the national patient safety movement. Heather Riah, MBA, assistant vice president, Strategies, says, “While full access to our CBS database is by membership only, researchers, authors, and patient safety leaders, now have immediate access to data that may provide insight into patient safety vulnerabilities. Our goal is to provide data that can be used to advance research on patient safety interventions.”

CBS, which contains more than 300,000 medical malpractice cases, represents roughly 30 percent of U.S. malpractice cases. Members of CBS, which includes captive and commercial insurers, academic medical centers and community hospitals, and physician practice groups, are able to benchmark trends in their MPL cases against peers across the country. This enables an organization to learn where their institution may be at higher risk for certain types of preventable outcomes.
