An Analysis of Medical Malpractice Claims Against Medical Oncologists from a National Database: Implications for Safer Practice
Jan 01, 2024
CRICO experts collaborated with oncologists from subscriber institutions Lahey Hospital and Medical Center and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center to research and co-author this study that was published in the Journal of Healthcare Risk Management. Using Candello data, the group used mixed methods to analyze claims against medical oncologists (MO) from 2008 to 2019. MO claims were compared to a group of other internal medicine subspecialties.
Conclusion: Malpractice claims data provided insight into potential systems fixes to help reduce the risk of future patient harm. The findings may help inform providers and health care systems with approaches to enhance patient safety.
