Candello’s 2024 benchmarking report, For the Record: The Effect of Documentation on Defensibility and Patient Safety, is featured in an article on the Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety website. The article highlights the critical role of accurate and timely documentation in patient care saying, “While advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) offer potential solutions to alleviate clinicians’ documentation burdens, the [Candello] report emphasizes that these technologies must be meticulously validated and supervised by health care professionals to ensure data quality and prevent inaccuracies.”

In addition to highlighting data from the Candello report, the article includes comments from experts like Bob Wachter, M.D., and Eric Topol, M.D. Wachter highlights the dangers of assuming clinicians can effectively catch AI errors, while Topol envisions a future where AI enables “keyboard liberation,” allowing clinicians to focus more on patient care.

The Patient Safety Adoption Framework: A Practical Framework to Bridge the Know-Do Gap

    News
    CRICO Grants
Many patient safety initiatives fail to be adopted and implemented, even when proven effective. This creates the well-recognized know-do gap—which occurs when health care workers know what should be done based on evidence vs. what takes place in practice. To address this issue, CRICO funded the development of a patient safety adoption framework and had it evaluated by leaders in quality and safety. The framework and its findings were published online in the Journal of Patient Safety in April 2023.
