lamplighterawardiconAt its 27th Annual Lamplighter Awards, The New England Society for Healthcare Communications (NESHCo) honored 51 hospitals, health care facilities and marketing/advertising agencies for excellence in marketing, public relations and communications. Among the winners was CRICO Strategies, winner of a Silver Lamplighter Award for its 2015 CBS Report, Malpractice Risks in Communication Failures. The CBS Report is available for free download here.

The Lamplighters were established to showcase and honor excellence in health care communications throughout the New England region. The 2017 competition totaled 352 entries which were judged by the Mississippi Society for Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations, Wisconsin Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing Society, and Louisiana Society of Hospital Public Relations and Marketing.

The CRICO Strategies Annual Comparative Benchmarking Report: Malpractice Risks of Communication Failures, demonstrates the power of insights gleaned from CRICO Strategies’ national Comparative Benchmarking System (CBS), a database of medical professional liability (MPL) claims, and how organizations use MPL data to identify and address key vulnerabilities, thereby improving delivery of patient care and reducing malpractice exposure.

“This Report is a great illustration of the depth and breadth of the CBS database and the ability to leverage it to shine light on risks health care organizations face,” says Gretchen Ruoff, MPH, CPHRM, senior program director for CRICO Strategies and editor of the Report. Continued Ruoff, “Communication failures can touch every aspect of health care—no one is immune to it. It is important for clinicians and organizations to know where they are most vulnerable to communication failures and this Report will help them in that effort.”

CRICO Strategies clients contribute their malpractice claims to its national Comparative Benchmarking System (CBS), which currently holds nearly 400,000 medical malpractice cases from more than 20 captive and commercial medical malpractice insurers representing more than 400 health care entities nationwide. CBS provides a unique insight into what goes wrong, and why, offering intelligence to specific risk vulnerabilities. Armed with this data, health care providers and leaders have a clear line of sight on how to change specific clinical systems or clinician behaviors and mitigate those dominant risks and reduce their malpractice exposure.
