CRICO’s Advancements in Reducing Employment Practices Liability (EPL) Risk
In reflecting on our Employment Practices Liability (EPL) program, we take a moment to celebrate the progress we’ve made while also planning for the journey ahead.
Allegations of workplace harassment and discrimination have been increasing across all industries in response to increased societal awareness of issues like #MeToo and Black Lives Matter. Health care is no exception. CRICO possesses data from cases asserted at our member organizations since 2008 with the majority of cases occurring within the last five years. With over 25 years of providing EPL insurance, CRICO adapted swiftly to the shifting culture and increasing EPL risks by dedicating efforts toward developing a leading EPL insurance and risk mitigation program.
Our data-driven approach utilizes reliable claims databases to identify risks, guiding us towards EPL risk mitigation and workplace solutions. In collaboration with subscriber stakeholders and subject matter experts, we examine drivers of EPL claims and discuss solutions to improve company culture, enhance professionalism, and reduce liability risk.
During the past few years, we have developed and verified a taxonomy for EPL claims coding, produced recommendations for best practices for workplace behavior reporting, and deployed the Rapid PULSE 360 Pilot Program for professional development feedback and coaching at eight member organizations.
Our work does not stop here. As we look ahead, we strive to continue our progress in decreasing harassment and discrimination in the workplace by leveraging our EPL Taxonomy to glean deeper insights into drivers of claims, develop and disseminate best practices, and encourage subscriber organizations to participate in our Rapid Pulse 360 Pilot Program.
